AMD Radeon 7970 overclocked up to 1.7GHz dethrones GeForce GTX580

Shamino, the world famous elite overlocker, managed to overclock Radeon 7970 from 925MHz up to 1.7GHz using Liquid Nitrogen – LN2 @ 1.6Volts applied. Additionaly, Shamino boosted not only the core but the memory frequency as well. Specifically, the default memory speed is 1375MHz and Shamino cranked it up to 1980MHz @ 1.86 Volts.

As a result, running 3DMark Vantage,  seems that AMD Radeon is back to the hill top scoring 54.775 pts, while nVIDIA GTX 580 scores 48.002 pts. As such, AMD Radeon HD7970 dethrones nVIDIAs domination in single card performance race… for now! Take a look at the screenshot bellow, verifying the successful benchmark session.
